This has been a lovely holiday season in stark contrast to my abysmal (academically-speaking) fall semester of college. -_-;

I had lots of good food, spent time with family and friends that I only get to see around this time of year, and had a fun time with one of said friends MSTing the sequel to the AVP movie. (It was basically too much to cram into a 93-minute movie...and WTF was up with the "climactic" battle at the end that lasted a maximum of maybe, 20 seconds?)

I got an old-style picture camera to use for my photo class, a tripod, an HP pavilion laptop with a cooling pad, a keyboard light so I can type in the dark, and a printer/scanner/copier in one. (I also downloaded the latest version of GIMP to serve as my paint program.)

Never have I been so delighted with the ability to type whenever and wherever, as plot bunnies gnaw on my ankles from time to time.
I wouldn't MIND the Windows Vista, (I rather like the interface) if it didn't treat me as if I were a highly-literate 5-year-old. =p

I also received some minor college necessities, such as AA batteries and non-perishable foodstuffs. My mum sent me home-made gingerbread men. =) I enjoyed biting their heads off, and they brought back happy childhood memories.

Hm, yeah, but I'm very happy for the useful college gear, because I'm taking about six classes this coming semester, and I will warn my friends ahead of time that I may come across as borderline bipolar and rather needy. ^_^;
(Basically I'll be alternately happy-hyper and pitiful-depressed...cuz stress does that to me.)

(This warning goes out to my Tak, in particular, as during periods where I have art projects I will probably goose-step over to your house and offer my services as a cook and a source of entertainment in return for camping out at your place, which as you know is much closer to our class buildings than my actual dorm room.)

Umm...But the good news for people who know me on DA is that I now have full capability for creating some actually decent colored art, since I'm not mooching off of my roomate's comp. =B

That also means I'll have cable internet while at school, so I can IM tons, and I'll finally be able to finish reading the current Naruto scanlations, so there may even be some new NWAA chapters.

*wiggle* Eight more days! Then I can set up for spiffy arts-making! Bwahaha!

It's Aliiiiive!

Oh DA journal, how I have neglected thee...

I've been kind of overwhelmed in school this semester,
and it's taking most of my willpower to drag myself out
of bed and get things done. =/

But not to worry, for I have some additional
incentive now that was not present earlier in the year,
and that is the planning and coordination of......
!!!The "London Fog Freaky" Movie!!!

Yes, seeing as I am now a film major, and I have been rather
dissappointed in the student work on my campus,
I decided to plan a massive project that may very well
take the rest of my college years to complete.

I am currently in cahoots with my friend and classmate of last year,
who happens to be a Theatre Major, and who will probably have
her name listed in over half of the credits. (such a multi-tasker she is!)

The script is still in-progress, but I actually feel more motivated to
draw more artwork, since I plan on creating the low-budget film and
the even more low-budget, but much more accurate comic series side-by-side.
This of course means I need to get copyright for the story and characters.

In other news, last night was the fantabulous "Rocky Horror" Halloween party
at my school, where we had interactive kits as we watched the film.
But what was most exciting to me was the costume contest,

As one of the crew who had set up the event was dressed in a very
detailed and nicely-sewn Harley Quinn outfit, and she paraded around
completely in character, the girl who dressed up as her was just the right size for the character, too.

She was like a brightly-colored ninja, managing to sneak behind my seat at times throughout the movie and sit there perched on a chair and grinning.

There was also a girl dressed up as Poison Ivy, who was actually responsible for the creation of both costumes, and she and Harley had a dance-off to a
well-known Spice Girl's song...

Other costumes that stuck out to me was the guy dressed up as the movie version of Sweeney Todd, (Want to see!!) Eddie from Rocky Horror, a guy dressed up as a ten-year old kid playing as a "blue barricuda" from that old Nickelodeon game show....The name escapes me. -_-; and lastly another guy dressed up as the main character from Rocky Horror.

Ummmm, those were the exciting things.
Aside from that, I've spent alot of time revisiting the icons
of my childhood, vie the wonders of Youtube....
(Although sadly it is nigh impossible to watch episodes of Freakazoid anymore)
...I hope they start releasing the toons they keep banning from
YouTube onto DVD...Cuz I would actually buy them. =/

Lazy zombie kinda days...

I've been back in college for about a week now.
My living situation has been lovely,
and none of my classes have turned out to be too excruciating.

However, the money demon keeps poking at me no matter how many times I toss him on the back burner to hear his pained screams and the scent of burnt-...Er, yeah, well basically I don't have too much money for books and supplies this year.

Also, come Spring semester I'm gonna have to pay a $500-some bill for whatever leftover tuition expenses there are. Right now I've only bought the barest of essentials for immediate homework assignments.

I know I simply have to do two things;

1. Get off my butt and get my work-study stuff taken care of. I have to do a bunch of running around and some paperwork, but I have a shot at getting a job that lets me work with all the equipment for the Film students, which I now am. So, that sounds exciting.

2. I have a very nice benfactor lady who offered to help me out if I needed anything for school, so I need to compile a list of the cost of all my books, art supplies, and maybe if I'm lucky I could get a handy-cam out of the deal. =/

Problem is, I tend to react to big changes by hiding in a corner and being incredibly lazy and procrastinative. Which I'm currently in the process of doing now. I've basically been going to class, eating, sleeping, and watching movies. I have a lovely fan-fic in development for TMNT, but am having some difficulty starting at the "beginning" of a rather large plotline. ^_^;

Anyhoo, I started writing the first chap. which is subject to change, but the basic concept is this;

Master Splinter warned his sons on several occasions that he would not be around forever to take care of them. In the present day, the four brothers would be in their late thirties, and their master has finally succumbed to old age, and passes away peacefully in his sleep.

Each brother deals with this in their own way.

For Leo, Splinter's word is god, and he becomes a completely no-nonsense leader who is determined to spend the remainder of his life using his ability to help those in need. But he also feels that his brothers should follow this path alongside him. He quotes their father directly, and any disagreement with Splinter's words results in violent confrontations with Leo.

Raph has developed somewhat of a complex about always doing the wrong thing. He doesn't feel like Splinter left seeing him in a proud light, and tries to make up for it by focusing on not doing the things that always rewarded him with disapproval. For example, he does his best not to argue with Leo, and actually follows along with their leader's vision of dedicating themselves to fighting for justice.

Mike does his best to cover up any trauma he feels. He continues to make his brothers smile, and tries to pitch in by publishing children's books for some extra income. The creativity serves another purpose, however, as Mikey uses it to escape from his fear; that of a child that no longer has a parent to make everything okay when it goes bad.

Don refuses to break down with the others after the incident, because he knows that none of them will truly be "OK" until they live the lives they want and not the lives they think they're supposed to. He also pitches in to help, selling repaired appliances, dressing Leo and Raph's wounds from their nightly patrols, and heightening the security of the lair. While juggling these duties, he also works on a secret project that he feels may put the brothers more at ease in the long run, in the same manner that Master Splinter was content with his life.

Aaand, there's lots more to it, but that is the basic setting. =) I really liked the idea of placing the gang in 2007-2008, and taking into consideration that they were fifteen years old in the 80's.

Who says super-heroes have to be 14-25 years old to be cool? =p

TMNT Movie 4 Rant

Just finished watching the new TMNT movie;
And while it was very good, and the animation was beautiful, particularly in the fact that the character models had digital muscles that flexed with their movements and caused veins to pop out....=)

My only complaint is all the cuts and changes that ruined the potential full extent of the dynamic between Donnie and Mikey.

The original idea they were going to use of
Donnie coaching Mike through the birthday party via communication link, and then Mikey doing various cute things on the ride back home (and continuing to talk to Don through a mic in the van) before skateboarding into the sewer lair and announcing;

"Honey I'm home!" as opposed to "Here's Mikey!"
Was SO much better. XD :heart: :heart: :heart:

Not to mention the fact that when Mikey came home, Don was supposed to take the money from him, wherein Mikey does this total annoyed housewife pose and "ahems", then Don gives him a single bill from the wad of cash and Mike is perfectly happy with that.

Also, the "ninja tag" scene would have been wonderful to keep in, not only as a showcase of Don and Mike's awesome teamwork, but also to show off mounting tension/competitions between Leo and Raph.

....Yeah, I totally watch the special features and commentaries on DVDs. ^^;
Mebbe my one friends was right, and being a film major/buff/critic doesn't let me simply enjoy movies as they are? Eh. Hopefully it means I'll one day be able to have part in the creation of something with those extra little details that get overlooked by businessman types. =/
