I've been back in college for about a week now.
My living situation has been lovely,
and none of my classes have turned out to be too excruciating.
However, the money demon keeps poking at me no matter how many times I toss him on the back burner to hear his pained screams and the scent of burnt-...Er, yeah, well basically I don't have too much money for books and supplies this year.
Also, come Spring semester I'm gonna have to pay a $500-some bill for whatever leftover tuition expenses there are. Right now I've only bought the barest of essentials for immediate homework assignments.
I know I simply have to do two things;
1. Get off my butt and get my work-study stuff taken care of. I have to do a bunch of running around and some paperwork, but I have a shot at getting a job that lets me work with all the equipment for the Film students, which I now am. So, that sounds exciting.
2. I have a very nice benfactor lady who offered to help me out if I needed anything for school, so I need to compile a list of the cost of all my books, art supplies, and maybe if I'm lucky I could get a handy-cam out of the deal. =/
Problem is, I tend to react to big changes by hiding in a corner and being incredibly lazy and procrastinative. Which I'm currently in the process of doing now. I've basically been going to class, eating, sleeping, and watching movies. I have a lovely fan-fic in development for TMNT, but am having some difficulty starting at the "beginning" of a rather large plotline. ^_^;
Anyhoo, I started writing the first chap. which is subject to change, but the basic concept is this;
Master Splinter warned his sons on several occasions that he would not be around forever to take care of them. In the present day, the four brothers would be in their late thirties, and their master has finally succumbed to old age, and passes away peacefully in his sleep.
Each brother deals with this in their own way.
For Leo, Splinter's word is god, and he becomes a completely no-nonsense leader who is determined to spend the remainder of his life using his ability to help those in need. But he also feels that his brothers should follow this path alongside him. He quotes their father directly, and any disagreement with Splinter's words results in violent confrontations with Leo.
Raph has developed somewhat of a complex about always doing the wrong thing. He doesn't feel like Splinter left seeing him in a proud light, and tries to make up for it by focusing on not doing the things that always rewarded him with disapproval. For example, he does his best not to argue with Leo, and actually follows along with their leader's vision of dedicating themselves to fighting for justice.
Mike does his best to cover up any trauma he feels. He continues to make his brothers smile, and tries to pitch in by publishing children's books for some extra income. The creativity serves another purpose, however, as Mikey uses it to escape from his fear; that of a child that no longer has a parent to make everything okay when it goes bad.
Don refuses to break down with the others after the incident, because he knows that none of them will truly be "OK" until they live the lives they want and not the lives they think they're supposed to. He also pitches in to help, selling repaired appliances, dressing Leo and Raph's wounds from their nightly patrols, and heightening the security of the lair. While juggling these duties, he also works on a secret project that he feels may put the brothers more at ease in the long run, in the same manner that Master Splinter was content with his life.
Aaand, there's lots more to it, but that is the basic setting.

I really liked the idea of placing the gang in 2007-2008, and taking into consideration that they were fifteen years old in the 80's.
Who says super-heroes have to be 14-25 years old to be cool?
